FAQS
We don’t operate a first come first served waiting list for puppies – our aim is to breed happy and healthy puppies that go to wonderful homes for the rest of their lives. We invite people who are interested in one of our puppies to contact us and express an interest. When we know we have puppies on the way we will get in touch.
As hobby breeders we breed to continue our lineage as guardians of this wonderful breed as such we breed infrequently – on average once every 24 months.
Normal canine gestation is 58-68 days and then UK law requires the puppies stay with mum for at least 8 weeks.
It’s extremely unlikely that we’ll have any puppies available right now – we don’t keep them on the shelf nor do we advertise. If you’re interested in a Rouxboos puppy please contact us and we’ll be in touch when we know more.
There isn’t a specific price as it’s dependant on multiple factors and potential complications – we don’t breed for profit and in our experience the cost of a puppy only covers expenditures.
As a UK Kennel Club Assured Breeders we follow the recommended health testing for adults this includes:
- Hip scoring
- Breed club – kidney function test
- Eye testing
- Bitches under 2 years not to be mated
Additionally we carry out a full blood screen, urine protein testing, relevant genetic testing.
Puppies will have the following health tests prior to going to their new homes:
- Full blood screen
- Eye testing
- Health check by a Veterinarian
The Kennel Club is the only organisation accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to certify dog breeders under the Assured Breeders scheme. This means the Kennel Club are an impartial and competent inspector by the government’s sole national accreditation body.
The Assured Breeders scheme promotes good breeding practice and gives recognition to those breeders who are prioritising the health and welfare of their breeding stock and the puppies they produce.
As hobby breeders we only breed to continue our lineage as guardians of this wonderful breed – we aim to produce a next generation of Rouxboos dogs with every litter – as such we don’t breed for profit.
Per UK Law:
- We only sell puppies bred from our dogs.
- Puppies must be 8 weeks old before they can be sold or leave their mum.
- Puppies must be seen with their biological mum.
- We must be able to show they have used a ‘socialisation and habituation’ plan, which means they’ll have been gradually and positively introduced to a range of people and different household experiences and noises so that they’ll be happy and confident in their new home.
We follow and subscribe to the Puppy Culture Program for breeders which represents a gold standard in rearing and early socialisation. Our aim is to ensure our puppies get the best possible start in life and generate a ‘So What?’ response. Our puppies leave with a socialisation log of their experiences so their owners understand what they have already learned about their environment.
It’s important that owners continue to socialise their puppies as soon as they get home to help ensure a well-rounded adult dog.
Rouxboos
/ˈru.buːz/
is pronounced “roo boos” and originates from a nick name for our boy Baxter.
We strive to ensure the right puppy goes to the best possible home and avoid unhappy matches. Placing a full-on characterful puppy into a home that wouldn’t appreciate its energy may not be ideal and would certainly be tiring. So we invite owners to meet mum with the puppies and ask owners to give us their preference of which of the puppies are best suited to them, their environment and situation. We then subsequently discuss owner’s preferences and how the individual puppy’s characteristics will suit them to create the best match for everyone (especially the puppy).
